A trick by the petty con man Lemon Drop Kid eludes mobster Moose Moran to make a certain profit in the horse races. The Kid now has to pay Moran $10,000 in damages before Christmas, which he doesn't have. Because it is almost Christmas, he tries to collect the money by organizing an action for a so-called charity. The film introduced the Christmas-evergreen Silver Bells.
