The Hunch plot

After a jovial evening, Jimmy Humphrey wakes up in his bathtub to find "Buy Jerusalem Steel" written on his shirt. He decides to act on a hunch and borrows money from his future father-in-law, John Thorndyke, to buy 5,000 shares of stock. However, the stock drops and John demands that Jimmy make up the loss. Jimmy refuses to give up his hunch and conspires with his fiancée Barbara and a friend, Taylor, to fake his own death by leaving his hat and a bloodstained knife in a conspicuous place.
