Nice. Crispian Mills teams up with Simon Pegg again and Frost also appears this time. Not in the leading role, but they are also far from quick cameos. Both get enough screen time to do their thing and single-handedly lift the whole thing to a slightly higher level. It gets especially fun when the chaos breaks out and the desired mix of gory smut and dry British humor amusingly complement each other. That is a bit lacking in the bland first act, where there is a feeling that not everything is being achieved from the fun premise. Characters are not big enough, it is not really comical and the protagonist lacks a nice personality. In that respect, despite being an above-average horror/comedy with excellent CGI/practical effects, it still feels like a missed opportunity.

The enthusiasm is indeed very recognizable in the film and the premise is also very interesting. Still, the (British) star cast cannot prevent the plot from being a bit drowsy and it all takes a bit too long before the film gets going. Once the monsters are there (after waiting far too long) the film picks up a bit more momentum. Only The Slaughterhouse Rulez lacks the balls to go full on over the top with this film and it radiates from it. It's not crazy and bloody enough for me. As a result, the impact remains minor and I'm actually pretty quickly hooked on the film.

2.5*

Under pressure from his mother [Jo Hartley], Don Wallace [Finn Cole] attends an elite boarding school with a nickname that indicates what awaits you if you break the rules of the internal class system. Don soon finds himself at odds with Caspar De Brunose [Jamie Blackley], but also discovers that the school principal [Michael Sheen] is a stooge for a company that is heavily involved in fracking in the field. Together with roommate Willoughby [Asa Butterfield] and love interest Clemsie [Hermione Corfield], Don tries to find out what's really going on. Simon Pegg plays the amiable supervisor and Nick Frost and Margot Robbie have amusing bit parts in this entertaining British school comedy that takes surprising directions.
