"Always let ambition blind ability"
Davie is a dreamer who is constantly looking for a way to earn money, which he then loses by betting on horse racing. After a career-ending football injury, Davie falls for a trainee nurse Shona and tries to impress her by running a disco. Together with his friends John and Scot, he begins to promote bands - culminating in a hugely ambitious performance by Iron Maiden at the Caird Hall in Dundee. But this puts them deeply in debt to Fergie, a mobster who does not shy away from extreme violence.
