Rooie Sien plot
When Rooie Sien is tired of her husband Ko during the turbulent early years of the 20th century, she leaves Rotterdam to go back to work in the Amsterdam Red Light District. Her daughter Sien stays behind with her in-laws. When Ko comes back from the sea, he tries to persuade his wife to come home. Red Sien absolutely does not want to and eventually pays for it with death. Meanwhile, mother's history seems to be repeating itself with her daughter. Young Sien is now a beautiful and lively girl. Father Ko has to pull out all the stops to keep her on the right path, but Sien draws crowds with her songs...
