The messy Pszoniak family lives in the middle of Detroit, in a neighborhood where squeaky-clean houses sit next to weed-overgrown shacks. Mother Jadiza tries to keep her four noisy boys and her beautiful, rambunctious daughter Hala in the right direction with a tight hand. But meanwhile, while her dreamy husband Bolek works nights at the local bakery, Jadiza leads a double life as the mistress of wealthy Roman Kroll. Aside from this affair, Mother is especially concerned about 15-year-old Hala. Already expelled from school, she escapes every night through the basement window in search of adventure. One day, the inevitable happens: Hala becomes pregnant by local police officer Russell. A huge shock for a Catholic family like the Pszoniak's! To make matters worse, Hala is also chosen by the church to lead the annual procession as a virgin...
