Nebenwege plot

With his 14-year-old daughter Marie in tow, Richard wants to put his demented mother Hilde in a nursing home. A matter of two or three hours, he thinks. But when Richard begins to pack Hilde's affairs, she suddenly appears to have disappeared. In her slippers and dressed in a kitchen apron, she goes to Altötting, to the black Madonna, who she hopes will help her in her desperate situation. When Richard and Marie go after her, the troubled relationship between father and daughter is given a new lease of life.
