"Vampires and teenagers are a lot alike. They're just misunderstood."
After spending the night with an attractive female vampire, a young college student discovers that he has become a vampire himself. He doesn't want to face it at first, but with the help of a 300-year-old teacher and a vampire handbook, he learns that blood doesn't taste as bad as he thought. Of course he doesn't bite women; he feasts on pig's blood. The trouble begins when a vampire hunter appears and tries to trap him with wooden beams and silver bullets...

Great poster and equally great movie.
I had quite low expectations for this film because of the disappointing rating. Still, I had so much fun with this. Don't expect real horror or an original plot. Expect some great 80s fun with some very good jokes. For example, I laughed my head off at the parents who think their son is gay when he is actually a vampire. Or the cross of Jesus that doesn't work so they think the vampire is Jewish. Not exactly very PC comedy but still quite funny. The film has a nostalgic feel and the soundtrack is fantastic.
In my early teens I would have put this movie on endlessly.

Not really a horror actually. Just because some vampires come into it doesn't mean it's scary. But if you're being courted by a femme fatale and you're still sane enough to realize it's "too good to be true," you might end up in our friend Jeremy's situation.
In terms of genre, it is a light-hearted teen comedy, but with those vampires it has something extra. But as said above. Pure fun. Entertaining. And some nice situations here and there, such as that cross or the idea that the son is indeed gay. Blessed when they realized he turned out to be "just" a vampire.
It floats between lame and amusing, but I'm definitely going for the latter. Just fun!
