Mountain Dew plot

Magazine writer J. Hamilton Vance travels to the Kentucky mountains for inspiration for his stories and falls in love with Roxie Bradley, the daughter of a bootlegger. Initially viewed with suspicion by the mountaineers, Vance eventually wins their trust and is hired as a teacher in the small log cabin. The former teacher, resentful of the intrusion, attempts to shoot Vance through the schoolhouse window, but Roxie intercepts the bullet. Vance nurses her back to health, arousing the jealousy of Lily Bud Raines, who spreads a rumor that Vance is a federal agent spying on the bootleggers.
