"Everyone thinks they're a comedian. Everyone's wrong."
Arnold travels to Los Angeles with his girlfriend Mary to pursue a career in comedy and finally do something with his life. After the move, Arnold saunters around and drinks himself to death without setting foot on stage. Mary breaks up with a ticket for drunk driving. Arnold ends up with his van in the parking lot of the underground comedy club The Bomb Shelter, where the meanest and raunchy comedians work. Owner Dave, a failed musician and comedian, allows Arnold to stay in exchange for some redecorating jobs. Soon Arnold discovers a world of stand-up comedy and an unlikely family.
