Merely Mary Ann plot
"The Stars of "Seventh Heaven" "Street Angel" "Sunny Side Up""
The Reverend Smedge brings the naive orphan Mary Ann to London boarding house keeper Mrs. Leadbatter to do the unpleasant work for her. One of the tenants, John Lonsdale, is a frustrated composer who looks down on popular music and people he feels are less than him. Lonsdale insults Mary Ann for her "vulgar sentiment" when she pays the rent for his newly delivered piano because he doesn't have enough money to pay the delivery guys. When Lonsdale also criticizes Mary Ann's red hands, Lonsdale's friend Peter Brooke comforts her.
