Max plot

"Max sells trophies, but is much more interested in dancing than in selling"

Max de Keukeleire is an aging widower who lives with father and daughter above a somewhat untidy-looking shop, a family business in cups and trophies. However, things do not go smoothly because Max knows just as much about sales as an average cow does painting facades. He sees the dance lessons he takes every week as a fun pastime. Unfortunately, his artistic qualities are just as bad as his commercial temperament: crying with the hat on. So let his teacher dance with him with a coat rack. However, with a view to the upcoming championship, this is not a pleasant prospect and Max starts looking for a partner. By accident, he comes into contact with Annie, a former striptease dancer who is on the run from her lover. Their first contact is not what you would call successful, but gradually something beautiful grows between them. However, Annie's ex-lover isn't about to let all this happen.

Jacques Vermeire had been comedian number 1 in Flemish theaters and on television for several years. A film was therefore inevitable and although it was perhaps not a flop commercially, it was not really successful either.

Even Jacques, with grimace and word, could not fully make up for an all too weak scenario.

An inappropriate thing with bland humor.

Mediocre film with a recognizable Jacques Vermeire. At times a bit too much within the known role of DDT. Nice to see some characters from FC De Kampioenen again. And Urban! Blessed quip, by the way, "It's a good thing I wasn't born in a car, otherwise I'd be a garage owner". Anyway, this is about the movie "Max" and as far as I'm concerned it has too little to do with it...

It was a huge success in Flemish cinemas at the time and still today in the top 10 of the most visited films in the Flemish film world. And now that I've seen him again many years later, I also continue to find him very amusing with an excellent wimpy Jacques Vermeire. Jacques Vermeire was already very popular in Flanders with his portrayal as DDT in FC De Kampioenen and Greet Rouffaer was already known in the soap world by Wittekerke. Many familiar faces in this film by the way and that automatically ensures some publicity. Also Urbanus with a small performance by the way!

But Max is just fun to watch because of Max's bumbling tricks and his great one-liners: "It's not because you have a bicycle pump that you have to ride in a cactus field" or "It's not because you have a flyswatter, that you have to open the windows" ...

Max is pure nostalgia. The story may not be much, but it is certainly funny. You do have something to do with Max and you develop sympathy for the character. That's a lot, especially for a comedy. All very predictable and with a quip to end with a happy ending, but that's normal for such a production.
