Love Is an Awful Thing plot

Anthony Churchill, who is about to marry Helen Griggs, is on a six-month probationary period imposed on him by Helen's father, who knows that Anthony has been wild in his early days. Marion, a forgotten flame, shows up with incriminating love letters Anthony wrote and threatens to sue for breach of promise. Anthony pretends to be already married and uses the caretaker's wife and some hired children as his supposed family. Marion seems convinced, but Helen is heartbroken when she discovers what she considers proof of Anthony's faithlessness.
