Hopeless, but forever single, Los Angeles journalist Natalie thinks things will start to improve when she hooks Tag, a dreamy East Coast boy, through a dating app. She decides to surprise him for the holidays. But then she discovers she's being scammed by Tag's childhood friend, Josh, who is just as unlucky in love. Yet she makes an effort to fall in love again.

Dobrev's years are also starting to count, but she still manages to take on the leading role in a very charming way. A movie like this shouldn't rely on a stupid plot, because why on earth would Josh help her get another dude? And why does she stay there? Oh well, you just take it for granted. It is especially the atmosphere and the mutual chemistry that is more than excellent. That's all a Christmas movie needs. Although it was sometimes quite a balancing act on the edge with the extremely uncomfortable moments in which the 2 leads place themselves. It was so cringeworthy that my girlfriend and I had to look away every now and then. But it happened again with such a smile that I can't possibly hate this.

But apart from that lame joke, it is actually quite a nice and charming film, perhaps a bit too sweet but also just fun - and with an appropriately subtle criticism of the political correctness of many films in this genre. How many movies have an Asian nerd with glasses in an insignificant supporting role, just to name a few. And doesn't Tag just have a point with his complaints?
It's a shame that the storyline with climbing is so far from reality. That really could have been a bit better, with a little effort in the plot. Still, the gimmick with the title is worked out quite nicely, Dobrev is fun enough to keep my attention for a little bit, and the message is positive. Pretty good for a Christmas movie, actually.

Harry Shum Jr. and Jimmy O. Yangi are fun and Nina Dobrev manages to make her role seem heart-warming despite her character flaws. The message is beautiful, but you can't really call it credible. Unfortunately, this does not correspond to reality. Althea Kaye as Grandma is funny and straightforward. Mikaela Hoover as Chelsea, the girlfriend of Harry Shum Jr. is impressive. The chemistry between Jimmy O Yangi and Nina Dobrev may not be believable, but it is there because they complement each other well and portray their roles convincingly. Nice Christmas movie! 6.5/10
