Office worker Jimmy Sterling becomes increasingly dissatisfied with his extravagant wife's behavior. She also prefers her work as a stenographer to that of the household and having children. Homeowner RM Pembrook demands Jimmy pay his back rent, but Jimmy asks for a reprieve. Radio star Bill Damroy is a friend of Jimmy's and advises him to bluff Pembrook with stories about stocks. Jimmy tries the tactic when Pembrook enters his residence. While he shaves and therefore stands in the bathroom, Jimmy hangs up all kinds of stories about his alleged wealth and stock. Then comes the great mistake; it's not Pembrook standing in the living room, it's Jimmy's boss. The boss immediately decides not to give Jimmy a raise, since Jimmy is rich enough after all.
