L'Honneur de la Tribu plot

The city of Zitouna in Algeria has lost its identity due to the colonial era. Omar el Mabrouk and Ourida grew up there when Algeria still consisted of French departments and the Foreign Legion was stationed there. The struggle for independence from France had started in 1954. Omar kills Paulo, a legionnaire, and has to go into hiding. After the independence of 1963 he resurfaces and represents the FLN, which enjoyed the sympathy of many. Unfortunately, the FLN never lived up to its promises and this revolutionary party has become an oligarchy, where corruption is rampant.
