Tommy Taylor left his family years ago to pursue a career as a composer and earns a living as a pianist at the Chips Maguire nightclub. When the police raid for illegal activities, Chips forces Tommy through blackmail to arrange for Chips to stay at Tommy's mother's guest house under the pseudonym Graselli. But one of the other residents is Sarah Jane Ryan, an old acquaintance of Chips who is pursuing a career as a singer. While Chips tries to hide, a romance develops between the singer and the composer.
