Ils Étaient Cinq plot

Roger, actor, Marcel, boxer, Philippe, André and Jean, postman, are inseparable comrades. They learn that the war has ended in 1945 and swear eternal friendship. But they don't hesitate to pick on each other's wives, to switch from a hero's life to a life of idleness, to steal and kill, even out of jealousy or revenge. Three of them end up in jail. One of them's sister is murdered and the others await the release of the trio to see their friendship reunited.
