Gjest Baardsen plot

Gjest Baardsen was a well known clever thief around 1800. He steals from the rich and gives to the poor and is feared and loved. He always manages to escape from chains. One day he saves the girl Anna so that she does not have to marry an old man and later saves her again when she is accused of theft. They run away together in disguise and live for some time as crooks in the mountains. They love each other and Gjest decides to surrender so that he can finally be free and live with Anna as a law-abiding man.
