Fontan plot
De Fontein is set in and around a large apartment block in Leningrad. The flat is in such bad shape that there is a great danger of it suddenly collapsing. Despite this, the residents go on with their lives, completely indifferent to the impending catastrophe hanging over their heads. They are mainly concerned with their own private worries that range from growing tulips for the black market to jumping off the roof in an attempt to fly. Peter Lagutin, the maintenance manager, is the only one who feels responsible for saving the building. However, he is fighting a losing battle against the tearing of the walls, the collapse of the roof, etc. Strangely enough, no order regarding the maintenance of the flat arrives and every ad hoc repair only leads to the chance of a possible crisis is only getting worse.
