Elstree Calling plot
A family tries to receive the broadcast of a variety show from the Elstree studios on their TV set. For example, a number of top numbers from the variety show from that time are preserved for eternity, including a number of songs that later made a big impression in films. Tommy Handley is the presenter who talks the nineteen songs together from a vaudeville theater. Among other things, a skit can be seen in which a 'wrong man' is murdered and Hitchcock's hand can be recognized.

A cheap-looking, but therefore probably quite authentic, recording of some of the top British music hall acts of the time. This makes it a historically interesting document, even if it's all rather unimaginatively shot. Hitchcock directed "a few sketches," including the intermezzos in which Gordon Harker tries to repair a television and Donald Calthrop's attempts to revive a Shakespearean monologue.
