Der Optimist plot

Gustl (Viktor de Kowa) is the optimist, a young man who constantly dreams of great wealth. He is open to a thousand and one whimsical ideas and makes his mother (Henny Porten), sister (Else Elster) and fiancée (Gusti Huber) to despair through his incompetence. In the end, he manages to get his hands on a fictitious oil well cheaply and sell it again for a big profit, shortly before it becomes clear that there is no oil at all.
