"The journey within"

Roshan is a young American of Indian descent who travels to his native country for the first time when his dying grandmother forces him to return. Already at the airport, he is confronted with a news report about a black monkey who appears when disaster strikes someone's path. Once he arrives in the village where his grandmother grew up and where his parents once fled, he is quickly absorbed into the community. Still, Roshan has major problems with things that are incomprehensible to him, such as corruption within the police, superstitious rituals and the rigid way in which people deal with marriage. But he also sees beautiful things, such as the strong family ties and the sense of community. Unfortunately, the black monkey shows up nearby and causes a spate of incidents. Neighbors blame each other and a dangerous situation threatens if both Muslims and Hindus resort to armed violence.
