De Boezemvriend plot

1811. In Paris, a toothache-ravaged Napoleon prepares for his campaign against Russia. Meanwhile in the Netherlands all able-bodied men are being recruited for the French army. The itinerant molar extractor Fred van der Zee, calling himself Professor Pasdupain, barely escapes and flees into the woods. He gets a lift from the fairground dancer Mercedes, with whom he falls deeply in love.

The great commercial success of this amateurish, slightly based on The Inspector General (van Duin is a big fan of Kaye), flat comedy cannot hide the fact that this is a bland and average film. Only fun for the fans of van Duin.

What a mockery of a Dutch comedy this used to be and the same goes for the very bland story.

When I was a child I could appreciate André van Duin for his humor and I expected to see a nice comic film with a lot of laughter and a lot of nudity in it, because nudity naturally belongs to a Dutch production and certainly in the 80s Since the popular and busty Connie Breukhoven (at the time she had the stage name "Vanessa") also starred in this film, I naturally hoped to get a glimpse (preferably in full glory of course) of her big breasts. But there was very little to laugh about and there is also no nakedness of Connie Breukhoven. She did look pretty and is also regularly showing off her cleavage, of which only the top is visible.

In any case, the story and its execution are little to nothing and I actually saw it quickly with this lame film that fortunately does not last long at almost 90 minutes. Visually (and in particular the decoration and the sets) it is not that bad and André van Duin in the role of the itinerant molar extractor Fred van der Zee did a little bit of fun and the same goes for Frans Van Dusschoten and Corrie van Gorp with whom André van Duin did a lot of fun sketches at the time. André van Duin should have left it at that, because he just can't act and carry an entire film.

All in all, indeed a Dutch comedy film to quickly forget and the latter actually applies to many Dutch films.

Found to explain the 'game' to the audience by means of a wooden puppet (in case someone missed the twist). Just like puppet show. Anyone who wants to see something serious in this film is completely wrong. This movie was made not to be taken seriously at all. Pure parody expertly crafted. Just like Canon Ball Run II.

How much talent does André van Duin have if he can act like this without a drama/actor training? He carries the film.

There will be a lot of people who don't like this movie because they need to see something serious in it. They will find the acting exaggerated. They don't understand that there is nothing serious about this film. From start to finish, this is literally meant to be a charade. A lot of mockery. And that has been cleverly done.

Certain circles, such as the 'intelligent art, literature and fashion world, with their usual 'talking along' because it is supposedly important, are taken by van Duin without their noticing (eg 'the nose'). . It was not until much later in his career that van Duin received the recognition he deserves. In this film he already puts those circles to shit. He has ...... to it.

Look at the names that have attached their name to this film. They understood. Excellent film, 'easy to do', made by enthusiasts, really understood by a small audience. Van Duin takes everyone who takes themselves and life too seriously, completely in between.

And the acting and directing are geared to that. That is done by professionals. Each scene has meaning and lasts just long enough. Just like Clint Eastwood.
