Daddy and Them plot
"It's hard to stand by your man... when your sister's sitting in his lap."
Claude (Thornton) is a humble city clerk (he mows the lawns of municipal buildings and parks) in a small town in Arkansas. He is married to southern belle Ruby (Laura Dern). When he learns that his Uncle Hazel is being charged with murder, Claude and Ruby decide to show their support. In their wake are Ruby's mother Jewel (Diane Ladd) and sister Rose (Kelly Preston). Supposedly to assist Ruby's in-laws, the two soon discover that they have a secret agenda: with her mother's approval, Rose tries to win back Claude, whom she had dated before Ruby married.
