Jim Dodge is an unemployed daydreamer who, after a lot of poorly paid jobs, is now a night watchman in a department store. On his first night he meets Josie, a girl who is hiding in the building and she turns out to be the daughter of the richest man in town! However, during the night in question, he proves that he can also successfully put his fantasies into practice when two burglars target the department store.

Revisited after almost thirty years. A bit better than I remember, but still a bit of a makeshift film. The film starts off well, and John Hughes' script is initially quite sharp and witty, but once the burglars arrive at the scene, everything quickly becomes dull and far-fetched. Anyway, we're mainly watching this for Jennifer Connelly, who looks damn hot in this. That scene on the rocking horse...

Like most, my points go mostly to "hot babe" Connelly. Horseback riding and roller skating are indeed drool-worthy, but how about the scene where she's "on top" of Whaley in a fitting room? Honestly: I wish it were me! 
Otherwise, a minor feat from Hughes... the man was clearly in his down phase... he emphasizes the urge to rid himself of parental authority in his Breakfast Club-esque dialogues between the two leads. Unfortunately, it wasn't captivating at all, not even when the two crooks joined in. Whaley as a good-for-nothing and liar was especially annoying... thankfully, they didn't give him any more leading roles after that.

Revisiting this after a long time. Based on the story and produced by John Hughes.
We follow braggart and bluffer Jim Dodge, a lazy freeloader who's been working at various jobs for a while, only to be kicked out of every one, much to his father's chagrin. His life changes when he gets a job as a night watchman/janitor at the large Target department store. There he meets the sweet Josie McClellan, who ran away from home to escape her domineering and freewheeling father, an influential businessman who tries to control her life. After a series of events, a spark ignites between them. Legend John Candy has a small but enjoyable role as CD Marsh, the department store manager who gives him the job.
A delightful romantic comedy with the familiar coming-of-age theme. Frank Whaley is absolutely brilliant in his first major leading role, but of course, it's Jennifer Connelly we're rooting for. What a wonderful girl and actress she was/is. With younger roles like in Once Upon a Time in America, Phenomena, and Labyrinth, I already had a crush on her. Here she's walking around in a white top where you can almost feel her erect nipples. We crawl under the bench. Do you want to be on top? Well, as a man, my wild fantasies are certainly running wild here.
Furthermore, nice conversations, nice music and at only 80 minutes the film is easy to watch.
