Brilliant film again by Jeunet, and indeed a shame about the low rating so far. Also has to do with the Netflix release, I suspect, which puts such gems on the big heap. A bios release would have attracted more and more targeted attention from the (right?) target group. At the same time it's nice that it can also reach the 'inattentive' viewer in this way, so like many things this also has two sides.

BigBug is a wonderful cabinet of curiosities by Jeunet, perhaps even more extravagant than films like Delicatessen[ due to the sci-fi setting[ /url] and [url=https://www.moviemeter.nl/film/1375]Amélie. This one is also a bit more slick, and the setting in one location also makes it unique. I thoroughly enjoyed Jeunet's unbounded imagination, which manifests itself in wonderful finds, his signature alternation of humor and tender moments, and the imagined post-2022 world, to name a few.

For example, I found Leo's hyper-mega-modern 'snake' very funny, as well as the fantasized elements of the corona era that persist in Jeunet's universe, such as the elbow. Claire Chust as Jennifer is a sight to behold. Furthermore, nice references (see also eRCee's message) and even playful (semi-)depth with humorous reflections on AI, what remains of the 'old world', and animal abuse (the human foie gras, hilarious ) The only drawback is perhaps the somewhat sloppy narrative, especially towards the end, which feels rushed. But that shouldn't spoil the fun.

So nice work again from Jeunet, let's hope it manages to reach the target group.

Besides zombies (George A. Romero, The Walking Dead), the stifling mother-son/daughter relationship (Psycho, Carrie), this is one of my favorite film themes: the household robot (Real Humans, AI). beautifully reflected, as it were, but cast in a different form. Jeunet also regularly refers to it explicitly: at the beginning with the dogs, the circus, the foie gras...

By the way, the Jack Russell looks exactly like my own dog haha... Just a pity that he is docked, which is still allowed in France. I also couldn't appreciate the fierce way in which the girl pushes the dog away, I hope Jeunet means something by it.

The colors are just a bit too trendy for me, although that futuristic 1970s look works well within the sci-fi genre. Furthermore, it looks very good visually. The robots are really cute. Hilarious farcical comedy, with the occasional dull easy joke. That comment about Hitler, for example, I found a bit too cliché. Also very unbelievable that he does not know who Hitler is.

Very funny when the air conditioning goes out and she remarks dead serious: "Oh, it's not that bad.. it's only 43 degrees outside." From a satirical point of view, I found that dry reaction ten times stronger than a complete film like Don't Look Up.
