"Every era has it's own kind of hero."
Canada, 19th century. The young Ned Hanlan is an excellent rower and during a competition his talent unmistakably floats to the top. The ambitious Bill McCoy immediately takes Ned under his wing. When the Canadian soil becomes too hot under Ned's feet due to a smuggling affair, the two try their luck in America. The competition is fierce here, but Ned can outrun his opponents with a revolutionary boat. Upon his return to Canada, Ned is greeted as a hero, but he soon discovers the flip side of the coin.
