Despite the fact that this is a special story, this film is not good.

Snowden in the news is genuinely interesting to me. However, the filming is nothing. The story is told slowly and very dull. It lacks tension. Actually, the movie is too long. I often hoped that the film would be over, but alas. The whole drama happening with his girlfriend was totally unnecessary and way too Hollywood like.

The good things were that the CIA's programs were well explained. That it really became clear why Snowden finally did what he did. The ending was good too.

But again: Too boring, too slow and too little tension to keep your attention for 134 minutes.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt once again proves to be one of the best actors of his generation by phenomenally playing Edward Snowden, the notorious whistleblower who leaked thousands of documents showing that the US government has access to emails and phone calls from ordinary Americans. citizens demanded without informing the citizens. In this thrilling thriller, Snowden is enlisted and how he risks his own safety and that of his loved ones to bring the truth to light. Anyone who has seen the documentary 'citizenfour' will recognize that Levitt is almost a doppelganger of Snowden (who appears briefly at the end) and Olver Stone knows how to build up the tension well. Moreover, the film never lapses into technical details, making the film captivating from start to finish.

It's probably not Stone's intention, but as the film progressed, I was more and more amazed (and not without admiration) how clever those programmers at the CIA and the NSA are, that they can extract so much information from so many phones and laptops. suck and can infiltrate so many networks. The fact that it would be nice if they were a little less controversial with that is unfortunately often a secondary concern. Fascinating film for those who are not bothered by the fairly cluttered career that leads in permanent or casual service through various departments of the American secret service, with, as is often the case with Stone, so many well-known headlines that I am sometimes taken out of the story: "Is that well Rhys Ifans? Hey, Nicolas Cage! Gosh, funny, I think that's Timothy Olyphant!" Fortunately, I find the subject too interesting to really bother with all those cameos, but the real urgency is a bit lacking here.
