Safety plot
"Safety" tells the story of Ray-Ray McElrathbey, a freshman who plays football at Clemson University. When he learns that his family life at home has become too unstable, and that these circumstances have consequences for his younger brother, he decides to raise him in secret at university.

Although Safety is an official sports film according to the genre, director Reginald Hudlin is more concerned with the life story of Jay Reeves. The drama (with light touches of comedy) is therefore the priority, but for a change this is highlighted in a less sentimental way. Instead, a fairly direct story with a fascinating progression, mainly because the cast members do a very good job. In any case, the playing time of 122 minutes passed very quickly and the second half even contains moments that are effectively moving. It is a pity that the humor is somewhat misplaced during the first half hour, because there is sufficient lightness without creating forced jokes.
