Basically a nice story, but very well filmed (visually boring) and hardly interesting. Despite the themes, the era and the history. Lots of indoor scenes of people talking but hardly interesting. Too much focus on the person Rustin, who is nicely portrayed by Domingo, but also always a character and remains theatrical and never really comes to life. 1.5*.

With his 'I Have A Dream' speech, Martin Luther King [Aml Ameen] became the face of The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963. But Bayard Rustin [Colman Domingo] was the one who had the charisma, the perseverance and the right experience to ensure that this demonstration went exactly as hoped. This biopic makes it clear that the flamboyant, passionate Rustin and the thoughtful, pragmatic King needed each other to achieve their goals. It also makes clear why Rustin remained in King's shadow for a long time in historiography. The screenplay by Julian Breece and Dustin Lance Black focuses through Rustin on the many other men and women who played key roles in the organization, including A. Philip Randolph [Glynn Turman] and Dr. Anna Hedgeman [CCH Pounder]. But it also shows how important King was in getting skeptics like NAACP leader Roy Wilkins [Chris Rock] and Rep. Adam Clayton Powell [Jeffrey Wright] on board. An excellent example of how to interweave a personal story with a historical document.

Nice historical film based on the life of Bayard Rustin, who turned out to be the source of Dr Martin Luther King and the inspirer of the largest peaceful protest action America has ever known. I didn't go well at first and during the film everything was not really clear to me. You need to have some prior knowledge of American history and politics to properly understand this film. That's why I only give this 3*, because it wasn't always up to par.

Furthermore, it is mainly about organizing the march. The march itself only appears on screen for a few seconds and is clearly CGI. Too bad... I must say that Colman Domingo plays the role charismatically. This film is not entirely convincing.
