I tentatively give it half a star higher because I almost certainly expect to like the much longer version better. If this is not the case, my vote will go back to 4* or a disappointed 3.5*...

The long version must almost certainly be excellent and I consider that to be the Original that should ultimately be judged! Although I understand very well that the shortened version will damage the rating and perception. Completely logical and expected.

Predictable sin of course. This should have been seen coming.

It is a great pity that they were not able to get approximately the same length as Killers of the Flower Moon into the cinema... That would have been an okay compromise.

Chopped out almost two hours? How can a director imagine and compensate for that while shooting the film? Have there been any films where this has been done satisfactorily?

French or English, the need for the historically correct language is personal, English required some acceptance and empathy but I was okay with it, thanks to the good acting.

Large-scale epic spectacle.

what a megalomaniac warlike guy that Napoleon was!

the battles are impressive.

I found some scenes with Josephine cringingly bad.

All in all not a bad movie

The military career of Napoleon Bonaparte [Joaquin Phoenix] in which all his famous battles are presented in a tattered form. Based on correspondence between Napoleon and Josephine [Vanessa Kirby], we discover that Napoleon was actually just an infantile, pathetic little guy in his love life. A terrible combination of farce (the sex scenes), romantic drama and war epic that completely ignores the personal qualities with which he managed to win the loyalty of his soldiers. A film with an identity crisis that is further hampered by a weak, at times bizarre supporting cast (dry comedian Miles Jupp as Emperor Francis I?) and hangs together like loose sand. Ridley Scott is more interested in flying limbs than in depth, although the fatal Battle of Waterloo at least offers something of a spectacle, although it pales completely in comparison to Abel Gance's Napoleon (1927) and Sergey Bondarchuk's [i ]Waterloo[/i] (1970).
