Kartini plot

Indonesia in the nineteenth century. At a time when the Netherlands still ruled and the woman only functioned as a bride, a brave lady stands up in Java. Her name is Kartini and she fights a fierce battle for equality between men and women and for the right to education for everyone, regardless of social class or gender. For this noble endeavor to succeed, the courageous Kartini must not only convince her own family, but also go hard against the rules and traditions of her own culture, something that is considered sacred in Java.
