Sixty Six plot
In “Sixty Six” cut-out characters from Portuguese photo novels and various comic books from the 1960s slide past advertising photos of modernist architecture in Los Angeles from the same period. In twelve stories, which collage artist Lewis Klahr worked on between 2002 and 2015, various worlds are fused together. Klahr uses old advertising images, stories from Greek mythology, elements from pulp detectives and film noirs. The collages form utopian or dark worlds. Structure is also a common thread: 2D images such as cut-out comic book characters light up extra, located on 3D photos of once so futuristic retro interiors.
