Prestige plot

Indochina, early 1930s. Therese Du Flos arrives at the French penal colony in Lao Bao in Vietnam. She finds that her fiancé Captain Andre Verlaine, under the pressure of the lonely task of running a prison, has become an alcoholic. Therese has sparked the interest of Captain Remy Baudoin, who visits the remote prison. The unscrupulous Baudoin convinces her to leave the outpost with him.
