Xing Xing Wang plot

"Action... Excitement... Spectacle beyond your wildest dreams!"

A group of Chinese bounty hunters goes in search of the legendary Yeti, who, according to legend, is hiding somewhere in the Hymalaya Mountains. However, most members of the group give up at the last minute, and only the adventurous Johnny remains. Johnny then sets off on his own, and even tracks the monster. He follows the beast to his cave and discovers that the Yeti is keeping a scantily clad young woman with him, whom he adopted after her parents were killed in a plane crash.

Gojira meets King Kong, that's the short description of The Mighty Peking Man.

So bad that it's just really fun. Wonderfully crappy effects, and I'm mainly referring to the background photography. The destruction of Hong Kong looked very nice, but you can clearly see that they are miniatures. Not that that matters much, because the whole is very entertaining. The soundtrack with the occasional funky soul songs is also so wonderfully wrong. Add to that the not very high-quality acting and you simply have a nice hour and a half. And that ending....... ...foei.In the beginning I really thought what kind of movie I'm in now, but as it progresses it gets more and more fun.The scenes in the jungle are very nicely done. And that wrestling with that tiger, just very tough .I love it.

3.5*

Great fun with The Mighty Peking Man, but let's face it: this is pure Night of Bad Taste material. Shaw Brothers is best known for their kung fu films, but our Hong Kong friends have dabbled in other genres as well. This is a direct copy of King Kong with a few minor touches of Tarzan, differing only in minor details including an extra romantic side plot. And yet there are quite a few slow scenes in it. Either way, it's entertaining if you're a fan of some cult - and this movie is full of them. Terrible special effects, a man in a gorilla suit, toy cars driving through models, bad actors, beautiful scenes such as the romantic intermezzo including a tiger, a blonde who walks around in a kind of jungle bikini for a long time (and who in one or somehow learned fluent chinese from that monkey), it's all in there. It is far from good, but for a short film this was quite enjoyable, in a so-bad-it-is-good-again way. But it shouldn't have lasted any longer.

The Mighty Peking Man is pure top drawer pulp and is a kind of Asian C version of the movie King Kong.

You see many elements of the classic coming back, sometimes approached differently and especially elaborated. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes really ridiculous. But you won't get bored because there is plenty to do. A plus are the beautiful natural locations. The beautiful Swiss Evelyne Kraft who walks around in a little-imagined bikini for almost the entire film is also a plus for the eye. She also plays a part in Casa d'appuntamento (1972). Oh well, a fiver can still get rid of it. 5/10
