Under the Yoke plot

"The battle for love of a woman with no regrets"

Maria Valverde, a young Spanish woman whose father has settled in the Philippines, returns home from the convent where she was educated and is soon approached by Diablo Ramirez, a local plantation manager who hopes to win her heart. After meeting the handsome American army captain Paul Winter in Manila, Maria spurns Diablo's advances and is later forcibly escorted from the house. Enraged, Diablo organizes a group of rebels who kill Maria's father and hold her captive in her own home.
