Traitor Within, The plot
Ambitious truck driver Sam Starr is in love with Mollie, who, like her father "Pop" Betts, hates the mayor John Scott Ryder. Ryder claims to have performed an act of heroism during the First World War, when it should be in the name of "Pop". All of Ryder's success is based on that false heroic claim. Sam takes Mollie on one of his rides and they are involved in a collision with a truck registered to Ryder. Sam's truck is a total loss and Mollie wants to file the damage with Ryder. When Ryder refuses, Mollie, unbeknownst to Sam, blackmails him by threatening to tell the truth about the heroic act of the war. Despite Ryder delivering a new truck to Sam, Mollie still tells the truth about Ryder in town.
