In the year 1988, after the death of Varadarajan Mudaliar, the king of Dharavi (the largest slum in Bombay), this region is ravaged by riots between the local Maharashtrians and the immigrant Tamilians. A Tamil named Ramadurai (Sathyaraj), known as Anna among the locals, takes over from Varadarajan the job of protecting Dharavi, and bravely fights against the Maharashtrians and also encourages his fellow Tamilians to fight them. He sends his son Vishwa (Vijay) to Australia to be raised there. In Australia, Vishwa falls in love with Meera (Amala Paul). Later, Vishwa discovers that Meera is a cop pretending to be in love with him to learn about his father's location
