18 years ago, April and Sean Saunders had to watch helplessly as their parents died when they were struck by a horrific tornado. April is a dogged storm chaser today, while her brother has retired to Seattle where there is virtually no chance of a storm. During her investigation, April finds out that Hurricane Alley is headed straight for Seattle. She immediately drags her boyfriend and her rebellious daughter into the car to warn Sean (the local Seattle sheriff) of the impending doom. However, Sean doesn't believe April and ignores the warning. When the first signs of the storm begin to appear, April is powerless against an entire city that refuses to believe her story.
