Purgatory plot

"Arrested 7,000 miles from home. Sentenced for a crime she didn’t commit."

Carly and Melanie are on vacation in South Africa. They pick up a hitchhiker and come across a military checkpoint. There the hitchhiker runs away, is shot and the soldiers discover a shipment of drugs. Both women are arrested. In the prison, run by the riotous director Bledsoe, they are treated like prostitutes. Melanie commits suicide after being gang-raped, causing Carly to realize she's going to get no help from the US Embassy and has no option but to escape.
