Long Xue plot
When thousands of Chinese emigrate to America around 1878, two golden dragon statues from Emperor Chien-Lung's estate travel with them. They are the cause of conflict, betrayal and murder in the Chinese community. A number of French fortune seekers go in search of the dragon statues. John Liu knows the origin of the figurines and thus becomes involved in the whole. However, at the hands of the French, he is blinded.
