Sawa (India Eisley) lives in a failed state where a corrupt security service makes money from trafficking in women. When her father, who is a police officer, is murdered, she insists on finding the killer. She gets help from his former partner Karl Aker (Samuel L. Jackson).

This film adaptation, which is based on the 1998 animation of the same name, is unfortunately quite directionless on all fronts. Generic story, poor character development and poor acting are the biggest causes of this. Samuel L. Jackson should be the showpiece in this, but it is nothing more than pilotage automatique. A shame because the film has a great atmosphere, thanks to the visual and sound effects, which are truly at their best. If the script had received more attention, this could have been a strong film, but as it is now I will certainly not recommend seeing it. Perhaps David R. Ellis could have put a better spin on it, but that will always remain an issue due to his death.

Strange, fairly mediocre film. The film drags on a bit and contains quite a few hard action scenes. In between some vague images with drug use and matching music, of little added value. The film is just not boring. Eisley is miscast and is not the hit girl that people had in mind. Jackson runs on routine.
