Hard to Kill plot

"He's L.A. Detective Mason Storm. Three hired assassins left him for dead. And he's waited seven years to even the score."

Agent Mason Storm is shot in his own house. The burglars only kill his wife, but they think they killed Mason and his son as well. Secretly, Mason is taken to a hospital where he spends several years in a coma. His son, meanwhile, grows up, thinking his father is dead. When Mason wakes up, everyone is in danger: himself, his son, his best friend, his nurse, but especially those responsible for the murder.

With a narrow 3.5 stars, I think this is one of the lesser Seagal films of the earlier years. I just can't quite put my finger on what's wrong with it. Probably because the middle part is a bit slow and stuff and the whole coma thing is quite unbelievable. No, it didn't hit me at all and Seagal is most impressive when bones are broken.

Well, a fairly typical Seagal and film from the 80s and 90s with that jazz music, that macho behavior and boring police force in ugly ties and suits. Really good films by Seagal cannot be mentioned, with the exception of Under siege. It's entertaining, but mostly nostalgic. As a teenager I may have seen this more than 10 times. Today it all means very little. Even from the fights I thought I was going to get hotter.

The plot is quite ridiculous of course with that coma and the further course of how he manages to identify the perpetrators is best taken with a large grain of salt. The film is also very sloppy at times. Action taken does not turn back and there is no turning back. That way you don't hear from his cop buddy anymore, as if he was never there. And his new flame also seems to be the perfect mother in the new harmonious family.

Perhaps a bit strict, because it was entertaining, if only for the nostalgia.

I'm not a Steven Seagal fan, have seen a few movies...but neither the actor nor the movies are my genre. I had never even seen this famous film and now I gave it a chance. Admittedly Kelly LeBrock was the deciding factor. She's not even doing a bad job with her role. The story is pure nonsense, but quite entertaining and nostalgic. That music...those tunes...funny! It is striking that in this film there are not so many fights and that more attention is paid to the drama. 6/10
