Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell has denied rumours that he has been approached by Marvel to appear as Cyclops in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel recently gained the rights back for X-Men and the group is widely expected to feature in one of the upcoming phases in the MCU.
The casting rumour mill has naturally went into overdrive, with speculation mounting that Powell could feature as Scott Summers / Cyclops.
However, the actor says he has not spoken to the studio.
“Before Comic-Con, everybody was like, “Dude, are you Cyclops?” No, I’m not," he told Variety.
"Nobody has called me. I don’t even have one contact info for Marvel, so I have no idea what people are talking about."
Powell features as LT Jake "Hangman" Seresin in Top Gun: Maverick which has become the blockbuster movie of the summer. It is now one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, having earned an astonishing $1.4 billion at the box office.
Taron Egerton as Wolverine?
Another role that fans are clamouring for news on is that of Wolverine. And, one actor has already put his name in the mix for playing Logan - Taron Egerton.
The role has been played by Hugh Jackman for over 20 years starting with X-Men in 2000, while his last appearance was in Logan.
At the conclusion of Logan, it seemed that the character arc was completed for Jackman, who has expressed apprehensiveness previously about returning to the role, albeit not ruling it out.
Egerton wants to take over from his Eddie the Eagle co-star, though.
"I don’t think it would be wrong to say that," he told the New York Times.
“I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it.
“Hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot."
