Jensen Ackles has revealed how he refused to film a scene in season three of The Boys.
Ackles was cast as Soldier Boy in The Boys, the first-ever 'Supe'.
The Amazon series is known for its violence and foul language, while certain scenes have caused a little bit of controversy.
A scene involving a Supe known as Termite, in particular...
Ackles knew what he was getting into when he joined the cast, but one scene written for Soldier Boy was apparently too much.
"As a father of three, and a son and a husband and a self-respecting human being, I can’t do this," he said, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
"I didn’t know where my line was, but you found it."
A compromise was indeed found, with show creator Eric Kripke saying: "I got what I needed without him destroying his soul."
How was Jensen cast as Soldier Boy?
Jensen and Kripke worked together on Supernatural, but the latter has revealed that Jensen still had to fight for the part, which was originally written for a much older actor.
"We were originally looking to cast an older actor, because we were going for like a grizzled John Wayne sort of vibe, but we couldn’t really find anybody," Kripke told Metro.co.uk.
"Jensen and I were just happened to be talking, we were just catching up, and I said, 'Well, we’re trying to cast this role, but we’re having a really hard time with it.' Then I said, 'Wait a minute, would you want to do it?' And he’s like, 'Yeah, sure, send it.'
"We sent it over and he said, 'Oh, my God, I totally want to do that.'
"He had to really audition, he really had to prove himself with all the executives at Amazon and Sony and everything, so he fought for the role.
‘It’s a larger-than-life character, but he has to be equal parts charming, and at times funny, but it really menacing and scary and slightly off-kilter so you just need an actor who can really paint with a lot of colours.
"The expression I use is 'they need a lot of crayons and their crayon box,' and Jensen does that. I’ve never thrown anything at him that he can’t handle beautifully and so I just said, 'whatever is going to happen with his character, I know he’s gonna be able to execute it.'"
