Taron Egerton admits his time to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe might have passed.
The Kingsman actor has previously stated a desire to be given the opportunity to play Wolverine now that the X-Men will enter the MCU within the next few years.
"I don’t think it would be wrong to say that," he told the New York Times about wanting to play Logan.
“I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it. Hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot."
Hugh Jackman is actually returning as Wolverine for Deadpool 3, but it is still believed that a younger actor will be chosen to play the character moving forward within the MCU.
Indeed, within the multiverse saga, there is the opportunity for different 'variants' of the character to appear.
Marvel isn't for Egerton anymore
However, Egerton has since changed his stance on the MCU, saying it's perhaps not for him anymore. He specifically mentions one character that he discussed with Marvel executive Kevin Fiege that he might now be too old to play.
"Well, the one that I mentioned is up for grabs, but I’m too old for it now," he explained to Total Film.
"I think that ship has probably sailed. Yeah, that whole Wolverine thing – I get asked about it and no matter what you say, it gets turned into what people want you to say about it. I’m not going to be the guy to play Wolverine. There’s no signs pointing towards that being the thing. And I just don’t know if I’m maybe… I don’t know. Maybe I’m getting to the point where that’s not what I want any more. I don’t know.
"I’d never say never, and I do love those movies. I’ve really enjoyed watching them over the past 10, 15 years. But whether I… You know, it may not be that they’re the right thing for me any more. I think maybe I’m past the point where that felt like the right thing ."
Egerton has carved out an impressive career so far through movies like the Kingsman series, Eddie the Eagle and Rocketman. He also received acclaim for the television crime series, Blackbird.
