David Harbour has confirmed that the final season of Stranger Things will commence filming in June of 2023.

Stranger Things is one of the most popular television series of all time and has received critical acclaim for most of its run so far. Stranger Things 4 aired in 2022 and it was shortly after the final episode aired that the next season was confirmed as being the last.

Harbour plays one of the show's most beloved characters, police chief Jim Hopper. At the end of Stranger Things season 3, Hopper's fate was up in the air after he was presumed dead, only for him to resurface in a Russian prison.

In the fourth series, he successfully escaped before making his way back to Hawkins to reunite with his adopted daughter, Eleven.

At the moment, he is busy getting into Hopper shape for filming.

"We're walking into season five. I've got a couple more months to train," he told reporters in Abu Dhabi this week.

"We start shooting that in June, though, and that will be the final season. I did a lot of training for season four. He was in a very specific position, that Russian prison. It was about making him a different guy and sort of shedding a layer of himself physically, mentally, and emotionally. But now he's back in town, he's back in America where they have cheeseburgers, so he will be well-fed."

Harbour knows how Stranger Things will end

Harbour previously revealed that he knows how Stranger Things will end, at least for Jim.

“I think it varies from person to person, from character to character, and I’m such a harassment specialist that I think I’ve gotten it out of them. It’s been back and forth about like, ‘What happens to Hopper? Is he a character that’s able to survive Hawkins or does he die?'” he told Variety

“I know what happens and it’s quite moving, and quite beautiful.”

Even though the Thunderbolts star has been trusted with the plot secrets, he believes it was necessary to aid his performance.

“I think that I needed to know as we were shooting early on, because I needed to know where he ends up and for what reason he ends up there. I think there is going to be somewhat of a morality — or at least responsible storytelling — to what the Duffers are doing,” the 47-year-old explained.

“There’s a reason in Season 2 why Bob (Sean Astin) dies. He’s too innocent. You can’t go up to that monster and say, like, ‘Get away from me, get away!’ You just can’t be that person in this world.

"That person dies. So I think there’s a responsibility in terms of how Hopper ends up that I’m eager for people to see, and I had to know that going in so I knew where to arc it.”
