Shawn Levy has teased some details about his upcoming Star Wars movie.
In November of 2022, it was announced that Levy would direct a new Star Wars project after completing his work on Deadpool 3 and Stranger Things, both of which have been delayed by the ongoing actor strike in Hollywood.
In the past, some Star Wars projects have been criticised for their lack of individuality within the main universe, but Levy says his movie will come from his strengths as a filmmaker.
"When Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a Star Wars movie, her central mandate to me was 'I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies — with a Star Wars story.'" he told Variety.
"So I have felt extremely empowered. We are in early days, unfortunately, because the development process was abruptly paused , but I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie."
Levy is one of a number of A-list directors who have recently been recruited to helm their own Star Ways movie, with Taika Waitii and Patty Jenkins also working on their own projects currently.
Deadpool 3 will help Levy with Star Wars
Deadpool is under the banner of Marvel, which is owned by Disney, so Levy already has plenty of experience working with large cinematic universes.
"The experience that I’m currently having with Marvel on Deadpool is showing me firsthand that it is indeed really possible to feel empowered and personal about making a movie within a universe that is bigger than any one film," Levy added.
"My Deadpool movie is turning out to be exactly what Ryan and I had hoped when we started off. So I’m going into the development of my Star Wars movie with a similar optimism, and faith that my instincts will be allowed to lead the way."
His Star Wars project will not commence until Deadpool 3 and the final season of Stranger Things have been completed.
