Sandra Bullock is taking an indefinite break from making movies.
For 2022, Bullock will feature in The Lost City and Bullet Train, but currently has no upcoming projects for 2023 or beyond.
The actress has worked almost non-stop since making her breakthrough in 1994 action epic Speed, and it appears she is ready for an extended break.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said:
“I don’t want to be beholden to anyone’s schedule other than my own. I’m so burnt out. I’m so tired, and I’m so not capable of making healthy, smart decisions and I know it.”
When asked how long the break will last, she responded: “I really don’t know.”
Bullock continues: “Work has always been steady for me, and I’ve been so lucky. I realized it possibly was becoming my crutch. It was like opening up a fridge all the time and looking for something that was never in the fridge. I said to myself, ‘Stop looking for it here because it doesn’t exist here. You already have it; establish it, find it and be OK not having work to validate you."
The Lost City
For the interview, Bullock was promoting The Lost City which also stars Channing Tatum. The action comedy sees Bullock star as a romance novelist who must team up with her cover model in order to find an ancient treasure.
For the star herself, she believes it was important for the story to be told from the perspective of a female hero.
“There weren’t any obstacles for the female character. And the male character we’ve seen before," Bullock explained.
"I like that I’m not 25. And I love that there’s a man in it willing to be many aspects of himself that weren’t traditionally shown in films like this because they had to be the action hero. And Chan was so game. Let’s just do it.
“Women of a certain age that aren’t 18 don’t go out on the first weekend. We have other shit to take care of … like families and careers. That’s why, if you’re lucky, you have a movie that sticks around. This movie made it worth the trip to the movie theater."
